Thanks for the political curator for adding my painting, Rosa El Norte, into this treasury. I agree with her statement, it's time to stand up for those who have been marginalized and excluded despite being the backbone of this country. Great work she is doing in obtaining awareness for those whom cannot advocate for themselves.

I've added a new page to my website entitled "Folk Art Dolls." I hope you like these little ladies. More of these dolls will soon be uploaded (for sale) at my Etsy Shop. They are made out of fabric and clay. For now, here's one that I plan to keep and put on my Christmas tree. Her skirt is made out of this wonderful embroidered fabric that I found in Paris.

If you haven't been to my Art Shop in a while, please check out some new Gustav Klimt inspired paintings recently added. http://www.danapereabloede.etsy.com

***SOLD*** (as of Nov. 27, 2011)...thank you!
Painting, 16x20 on wood, American Poverty 2011
Americans often talk about “poor people”’ as if they are a distinct ethnic group with similar “life choices” and are somehow unlike the rest of society. In fact, there is great diversity among families who experience poverty. The faces of poverty are the result of a major disruptive change in their family: a lost job, an illness, divorce, or death; all of which can happen to any family, at any time. Children of ALL ethnicities who live in single mother headed households are more likely to live in poverty. And, because of the likelihood that children will inevitably live with their mothers after a drastic life change, American single mothers are all too often left in a constant state of crisis, no matter what their socioeconomic status or ethnicity.
